Small Group Session during Refresh Camp |
We are happy to report that Refresh Camp took place as planned and that those who attended were blessed by the opportunity for fellowship with fellow believers from across the prefecture. Camp attendance was lower than initially hoped for but this worked out well since the remaining space was filled up by families from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster zone enjoying a respite from the stresses of living under the strictures of sheltering orders (i.e. all outdoor activity is restricted for those who live in high risk areas). The Aomori Christian Centre is currently serving as a destination for a Christian ministry that sends families and children from Fukushima to safe areas in neighbouring prefectures (such as Aomori) where they can enjoy the freedom of playing outside in a beautiful natural environment. It is now over two years since the nuclear disaster resulting from the tsunami in March 2011 but there is no end in sight for the consequences being suffered by the surrounding towns, villages and cities.
